State Street Global Advisors rolled out six new emerging market exchange traded funds last week based on the Citigroup/S&P Global Equity Indices: Emerging Markets, Emerging Latin America, Emerging Middle East & Africa ETF, Emerging Europe, Emerging Asia Pacific & China. The firm renamed the streetTracks ETFs as SPDRs in January & have about $100 billion in assets, and a 25% share of the US ETF market.
Since November, the firm has launched several more. The first two, SPDR Russell/Nomura Small Cap Japan (JSC) and SPDR Russell/Nomura Prime Japan, (JPP) track Japanese market indexes.
We will be monitoring the liquidity of these new funds to see how they compare with the iShares equivalent offerings. But their launch certainly shows the growing appetite for global ETFs from private investors as well as from institutions.
